For over 13 years we taught just medical transcription classes. However, in 2011 Medical Billing & Coding classes were added to our program.

We feel that every potential medical transcriptionist should research as much information as possible about the career field they are considering so that they can make an informed decision as to if it is the right career for them.

Our company is based out of Texas. We have staff that works both from our office and from their home offices to give extended online support to our students when needed.

Even though this is a self-study course we give you the support and resources needed to be successful in your new career.

One of the things you will find about our company is that we are up front and honest! We will not give you inaccurate information, and we will not sugar coat things just to get an enrollment.

It upsets us deeply when we think about the people that are ripped off by the fly-by-night scams, or any scam, for that matter. Many of these companies only care about the money and do not care about what they are doing to the people they are ripping off.

It should not matter if it is $1.00 or a $1,000.00; it is still your hard-earned money, and you deserve to be told both the pros and cons of things so that you can decide  based on the "facts" and not based on someone who is thinking of just dollar signs!

It is very important that you have the availability of student assistance when you need it; that is why we are open from 9 AM until 9 PM CST, six days a week.

Our office hours allow students in different time zones to reach us in both afternoons and evenings, which are when most students are doing their studying.

We do close the office during most holidays and on Sundays as we are a Christian owned company.

MTatHome will not make you false promises! We can tell you that if you work hard, study, and pass the course with good grades and high accuracy, then you should do fine when it comes to getting a job as an MT.

We will give you both resume and job assistance upon completion of your training. This will include assisting you with your resume, suggesting anything that might need to be corrected along with submitting your resume to open positions that are submitted to us by doctors and hospitals.

There are a lot of medical transcription jobs, especially since dictations went from the tape method to the digital method several years back.

Once the potential employer contacts you, they will request that you take a sample dictation / transcription test in consideration of hiring you to work for them as their new MT. 

Medical transcription is very much in high demand! There is a huge shortage of qualified MTs. Doctors usually have someone in their office that will do the medical billing and coding; however, they are in need of MTs to keep their patient's records up to date.

The transcriptionist will usually do this from their home (home office). The job that each medical transcriptionist does is vital because the information in a patient’s medical record can be just as important as a legal file.

Many people will review the patient’s medical records such as radiologists, surgeons, doctor referrals, and many more. The information included in the medical records / file can be a matter of life or death if the wrong information is typed into the reports.

A simple mistake such as a blood type can be a huge problem in emergency situations when there is not a lot of time, and the doctor has to go by what is in the patient’s records. This is why the accuracy of a patient's record of what is dictated for the transcriptionist to transcribe is very important!

The way this works is that the doctor dictates his notes into either a micro-cassette recorder (older method) or into a .wav file for digital transcription (newer method). You would then either transfer the file through the Internet or if on micro-cassette, they will either have you pick up the tape or will mail it to you.

At that point, you will transcribe the dictations into typed medical reports. Once you have checked it for accuracy; you would then return the typed reports to the doctor, so they can have their office staff place the dictated reports in the patient’s file.
