Welcome to MTatHome,
Below are some of the Main Contents of what you will get with your Medical Transcription Training
through MTatHome.
What you will get with your purchase of the course:
Compete Course Training Material (All Course Training Material is the
same - the only difference in each package 1 - 3 is the equipment or extra material you do or do not get is varies
with each course # package.)
Medical Transcription Training
Material
Medical Transcription Terminology Textbook - This textbook is very large it
has over 20 chapters full of extensive learning on Medical Terminology. To see a list of what the textbook
covers Click here.
Anatomy - You will learn all about the different body parts with our Medical Transcription course.
It is very important for MTs to learn about the human anatomy for proper training.
Pharmacology - It is vitally important for MTs to become familiar with different
prescription drugs and what kind of medical condition they are used for. You will learn about prescription
drugs and different dosage terms, and much more.
It is impossible to memorize every prescription drug, however learning about them and becoming familiar is an
important part of any MTs training. Of course you will want to have a prescription drug reference book for
reference when you start working as an MT or a pharmacology drug reference cd. (Our course 3 comes with
this CD, you can also add it to any of our other course options.)
Style & Format, Grammar, Punctuation, Medical Abbreviations - MTatHome
follows the AHDI Book of Style for Medical Transcription. This is very important because most employers will
expect their new MTs to know all of the current Medical Transcription Style & Format guidelines.
(AHDI was formally known as AAMT - The
American Association for Medical
Transcription)
Authentic Doctor Dictation in Digital CD Format to be used with a
Digital Medical Transcription Foot Pedal / Transcriber. (Course 2 Bonus, &
3 Ultimate include a digital transcriber / foot pedal.)
Our dictation has all the medical fields that you will need to learn to do medical transcription.
We do not just train you in a few, you are trained in all the ones that MTs need to learn. The dictations also
include ones that are easy to hear, a little harder to hear, Doctors with accents, etc. The reason for this is
to expose you to any type of situation you might run into when listening to the dictation that the Doctor you
work for may give you to transcribe.
Timer Program - To be used to time your medical transcription work to
accurately get your accurate LPH.
Medical Terms for Word Speller Dictionary - this will import into
Microsoft Word - This helps when you are transcribing your work and happen to type the word incorrectly, the
speller will let you know you have spelled it wrong. Most Word processors do not recognize medical terms as
spelled correctly. Without a medical dictionary imported into Word you will waste a lot of time trying to tell
it that the word really is spelled right. It is important to have the words as they are suppose to be spelled
imported into the dictionary. We provide this for you.
Bonus FREE CD that will cover the elements of inside the human body.
Medical Report Format Training - (It is important to know how the
proper format of each type of medical report transcribed should look. While some doctors may have their own
preference to bold, capitalizing, it is still important to know how the transcribed report should
look.)
Access to the Student Area -
Detailed Course Direction
Access to the Student Online forum - To talk to other students and MTatHome
Staff.
Access to Grammar Sites - To improve your Grammar and punctuation skills.
Access to online tutorials - These tutorials will teach you
how to upload and download files to servers online. This is important to know how to do for when you start working.
We also ad new tutorials on an ongoing basis to help you improve your skills.
Online & Off-line Training Support - (E-mail, Online Support, Toll Free
#) When you have a question you can contact our staff both online and off-line for questions and answers. Many
companies (not just MT Training companies) will have their customers call long distance for support questions. We
provide our customers in the USA a Toll Free number for support questions.(Note - Outside of the USA will have to
call our local #) There is a good reason for this! How many times have you called a support line, and you have been
put on hold forever or have to leave a message on the voice mail for support team to call you back. Both ways can
cost you money: 1. If you are put on hold for a long time it is on your phone bill that you end up paying for it.
If you have to keep leaving messages because the company might be busy it is on your phone bill each time. With our
company either way it is on "our “phone bill when you use the Toll Free number.
We also have LIVE chat with our student advisors from 9 AM - 9 PM
Monday - Saturday.
Certificate at completion of the course.
Job Assistance at the completion of the course. A lot of times companies will
want an MT to be experienced before hiring is considered. However, when you have completed a reputable training
course that Dr's; Hospital’s, and MT contracting companies have an acceptable agreement to consider "New MTs" with
a transcription test provided by the physician looking to hire you. We will offer this service to you for up to 2
years after you have completed our medical transcription course. This means that if you are not happy with the
physician you are working for and want to locate another position, we will assist in this with you!

_______________________________________________________________
***Digital Foot Pedal (Transcriber) - The average cost for this is about $125 - $300
depending on where you find it online.
*** Stedman's or Dorland's Electronic Medical Dictionary - We let you know
where to purchase such items as electronic dictionary, which costs an average of $100.00
*** AAMT (Now AHDI) Book of Style - $70 - $90 (This will depend on the
version and where you get it at. Some places are cheaper than others.
***AHDI Book of Style Student Workbook - $50 (This will depend on the version and where you
find it online).
The AHDI Book of Style and Student Workbook mentioned above are a Must for ALL Students. This is an
important part of the style and format of the transcription section of the training and you will use this during
your training and also when you work as an MT.
* Prescription Drug Reference Book - Average Price - $45
While we recommend a drug reference book, some students use an online drug reference site to look
up the names of the medicines for their transcription work. This is more of a personal preference.
**Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology - If you are Not a Nurse, and have never had any training in Anatomy
& Physiology then you need to get this book to use along with our course. - Average Price - $40.00 -
$50.00 Depending on where you get it.
* Typing Tutor - If you feel you need to improve your typing skills then
we also recommend getting a typing tutor called - Mavis Beacon (There are other ones online, however this is the
best one in our opinion to work on both the typing speed and accuracy) Average Price - up to $26.99
*** Digital Foot Pedal - If you get a course that does not have a foot
pedal with it such as Course #1, or Used you will need to purchase one before you start the
transcription part of the course.
You will need to have a computer that has Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. It does NOT
have to be a laptop. This is only a personal preference as to if you wish to use a desktop computer or a laptop
computer. Either one is fine.
If you already have a computer that is not real old and has MS Windows XP or Vista then you probably do not need to
get a new computer.
You will also need to have the program Microsoft Word for both the course and for working as an MT.
NOTE: Because we are a Christian company and believe in being up front, we wanted to let you know that if you
choose to get a laptop through us, please check around online first. Sometimes depending on the time of year you
might be able to find a laptop cheaper online. (For example: around the holidays or when school starts.)
We get them at a set price and therefore we cannot lower our rates when other places have sales. We cannot change
your enrollment if you do find one cheaper online. Please do your research before adding on a laptop to your
enrollment!
